In the 1800s, immigrants from Luxembourg and Germany searched for a location
to settle their families and chose what is now known as Skokie for their new
homes. Today, the village is rich with restaurants and attractions from the
German culture. The diverse history of the area can be viewed at the Skokie
Heritage Museum that has artifacts, photos and exhibits on the area. The banks
of Lake Michigan provide the area with several beaches and areas for boating
and fishing. The village is just north of Chicago and has easy driving access
to the metropolitan and surrounding areas.
